Resistance: Fall of Man  Sony Computer Entertainment (Insomniac Games)2006The first-person shooter has long been a pre-eminent game genre, thanks to such classics as Doom and Medal of Honor. But where such games either offered combat in a science fiction or World War II context, Resistance: Fall of Man blends the two with a story set in an alternate version of the 20th century. In this reality World War II never happened and there was no Nazi enemy. Instead humanity is threatened by brutal invaders, the Chimera. It's 1951, and Britain is the last outpost of humanity in Europe, a place now seemingly deserted. The situation is looking desperate, but the US finally abandons its isolationism and begins a counter-attack.

Resistance: Fall of Man was developed by Insomniac Games, a company best known for its Ratchet & Clank titles – lively, sassy games in many ways defined by their over-the-top weaponry. Despite this being a considerably grittier proposition, Resistance: Fall of Man will also feature an impressive arsenal and vigorous action as your character fights the horrific and technologically superior enemy. Resistance: Fall of Man offers both a compelling combat experience and a chilling vision of Europe.
[Sony / Insomniac]***This was an excellent shooter. Though graphics were not as impressive as expected, it did show what great potential is in the PS3
[Rave]***In Resistance: Fall of Man, the U.S. and Britain band together in a last-ditch effort to save Europe and Asia from a horrific scourge. In mere decades, the Chimera – a species of unknown origin propagating a virus that converts other life forms into more Chimera – has overrun Russia and all of Europe. Humanity’s hope for survival is slim, and the tide of the battle rests on the shoulders of U.S. Army Ranger, Sgt. Nathan Hale.

LittleBIGPlanet Sony (Media Molecule)2008Release was apparently delayed because of Qur'an references in one or more of the songs in the game.***Will be published by SCE International, SCE America, SCE Australia, SCE Japan and SCE Europe.***The LittleBigPlanet experience starts with players learning about their character's powers to interact physically with the environment. There are obstacles to explore, bits and pieces to collect and puzzles to solve – requiring a combination of brains and collaborative teamwork. As players begin to explore, their creative skills will grow and they will be ready to start creating and modifying their surroundings – the first step to sharing them with the whole community.

Characters have the power to move anything in this glued and stitched-together landscape; they have the power to design, shape and build both objects and entire locations for others to play.

There's no complicated level editor; all of these skills can be learnt by simply playing the game. Creativity is part of the gameplay experience and playing is part of the creative experience. Players can make their world as open or as secretive to explore as they like.

When it's ready, they can invite anyone within the LittleBigPlanet community to come and explore their patch – or can go and explore everybody else's.
